Brightening up the winter nights, the trail will celebrate its milestone year by bringing together the Garden’s rich history and living collections. Historic illustrations will be brought to life through art and animation, while 10 remarkable trees from the living collection will be highlighted along the trail to mark 10 years of Christmas at the Botanics. Returning favourites will also feature, including the iconic Christmas Cathedral and the man of the moment, Father Christmas himself. At the heart of this year’s trail will be a breathtaking projection across Inverleith House. Incorporating botanical illustrations from the Garden’s archive, it offers visitors a chance to experience part of the Garden’s rich botanical heritage in an entirely new way. © Christmas at the Botanics (Phil Wilkinson) Running on selected dates from 19 November to 30 December 2026, a variety of ticket options are available. These include Relaxed Sessions , which will have lower numbers and begin at twilight before the illuminated trail opens to the public. These will be held at 4pm on 29 November, 02 and 09 December. While 18+ Nights are open to adults aged 18+years old, and take place on 25 November and 07 December. This is an outdoor trail, taking approximately 90 minutes to walk, therefore please wear appropriate clothing and footwear. As the trail follows the natural contours of the gardens, some paths can be steep in places. Visitors are welcome to bring mobility scooters and wheelchairs. A limited number of wheelchairs and mobility scooters are available to borrow free of charge on a first come, first served basis. Pre-booking is recommended. Please note that some parts of the trail may not be suitable for all aids, particularly in bad weather. There will be a variety of places along the way to purchase seasonal food and drinks. For those looking to make the evening even more memorable, Signature Festive Dining Packages will be hosted in the Garden’s demonstration kitchen, offering visitors a special festive menu before setting off to explore the trail.
